AGRIMONY (Agrimonia eupatoria) 

Agrimony is an erect, downy perennial with green and silvery-green leaves, and 5-petaled yellow flowers growing on spikes that resemble fairy wands. Agrimony is slightly aromatic.

{ Healing properties of agrimony }

Agrimony is an astringent and mild bitter. Agrimony is used by herbalists for wound healing, digestion, kidney stones, sore throats & arthritis. 

{ Herbal Lore }

The King of Pontus in northern Turkey, Mithridates Eupator (d. 63 BC), was said to have had a profound knowledge of plant lore and antidotes to poison, and thus the species name Eupatoria was used. Traditional British folklore states that if a sprig of agrimony was put under a person's head while they slept, they would not wake up until it was removed.

  • Make a tea with agrimony for the magickal or healing properties.
  • Include agrimony in your spellwork, spell jars or spell bags if the properties suit your purposes.
  • Use agrimony in your candle work - sprinkle the herb around your candle, or grind the herb into a powder in a mortar & pestle and sprinkle. You could even roll herbs onto anointed candles. Always practice candlework safely. 
  • Sprinkle agrimony at the base of a white candle and burn for reversing spells. 
  • Make a herbal mix of agrimony and rue for protection - it is said to return the evil eye to the sender. Use as incense or in a spell bag. 
  • Make an agrimony infusion and bathe in the water for repelling hexes.
  • Agrimony is very good for home protection. Scatter a few spoons of agrimony around your house and then vacuum or sweep with the intention of removing negativity.
