Cloves are the dried flower buds of the aromatic clove tree, an evergreen pyramid shaped tree. Cloves have a fragrant woody scent.

Cloves are a disinfectant, antiseptic and expectorant. Herbalists use cloves to relieve pain, uplift mood, improve digestion, mental clarity, soothe nausea. Cloves are both a mind (memory) and body (aphrodisiac) stimulant. They also improve skin problems such as acne and skin ulcers. Cloves are chewed on to help relieve toothaches.

Cloves were one of the earliest spices to be traded, and were imported into Alexandria in AD 176.
