Herbalists use horehound for all kinds of chest and breathing problems, including bronchitis, wheezing, and asthma. Bitter tonics of white horehound suppress the appetite and support stomach function.

Horehound has been used since ancient days as a remedy for chest problems. Dioscorides (AD 40-90) recommended a decoction for asthma and coughs. Horehound is sacred to Horus.
